Simple HTML Tags (Page 1)

Title Tag

If you don’t specify a title for your page, browsers automatically show the web address on the title section instead. To specify a title for your document you need to have a <title> tag. This tag should be placed on the head section.

HTML Example:       <title>Google</title>

Tags for Formatting Text

Bold
You can specify bold text with the <b> tag or <strong> tag.

HTML Example:       <b>This text is bold</b>
Result:            This text is bold

Italics
You can specify italic text with the <i> tag or <em> tag.

HTML Example:       <i>This text is italicized</i>
Result:                        This text is italicized

Underline
You can specify underlined text with the <u> tag.

HTML Example:       <u>This text is underlined</u>
Result:                        This text is underlined

Nesting Tags

Nesting is when you want to apply two or more tags to an element. Let’s say you want to make some text bold, italic and underlined. You can start with any of the tags you wish first but you need to close it right away after the text. Then type the second tag in the beginning of the line and close it at the end after everything and so forth. The chart below might help you to understand better:

Nesting HTML Tags

Result:                           This is an example of nesting tags

NOTE: only nest tags that make sense. For instance you can’t next things like paragraphs with headings. A line is either a paragraph or a heading.

Line Break

You can create a line break by inserting the <br> tag anywhere in your page.
NOTE: This code is a single code and should be closed within the tag.

HTML Example:                   Here is a...<br> line break.

Result:

Here is a…
line break.

Paragraph

You can identify paragraphs by using the <p> tag anywhere in your webpage. This will create a line break and an extra space after the paragraph lines.

HTML Example:

<p>This is paragraph one</p>
And here we continue typing our next paragraph.

Result:

This is paragraph one

And here we continue typing our next paragraph.
